ARTCAN 2025 is the International Digital Art Exhibition of the Canary Islands — a groundbreaking showcase launching on November 1st as part of NFTCANARIAS 2025. It will bring together 30 leading digital artists — including participants from the 52WAD~2024 project and international creators — in a space where the natural beauty of the islands merges with cutting-edge digital art and blockchain technology.
This open call is active from August 1 to August 25, 2025, inviting artists to apply for NFTCAN2025, a hybrid physical and virtual exhibition of digital and phygital (tokenized) art that highlights the intersection of art, technology, and blockchain culture.
CATEGORIES
Moving Image
Works involving motion, such as:
• Generative Art
• Gif Art
• Animation
• Video Art

Phygital: Tokenized Objects
Physical artworks that also exist as NFTs, such as:
• Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking, Drawing
• Photography, Collage, Assemblage, Textile Art
Physical format: No side may exceed 1000 cm.
Special consideration will be given to pieces that conceptually and aesthetically connect their physical and digital (tokenized) forms.
PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
• Must be over 18 years old
• Prior experience minting NFTs on Objkt / Tezos blockchain
• Must submit a recent artwork fitting one of the two categories
• Must agree to the terms of exhibition, sale, and promotion
CURATION & SELECTION CRITERIA
Artists Chr5 and Julio Sahagún Sánchez will review all submissions based on the following point system (maximum 10 points):
• Holder of 52WAD – Silver or Gold Token (1 point)
• Participated as an artist in 52WAD~2024 (2 points)
• Meets curators’ minimum quality standards (1 point)
• Relevance to theme/style (Animation, Gifart, Generative) (3 points)
• Track record and innovation using Tezos blockchain (1 point)
• Visual/emotional impact of the motion piece (1 point)
• Creativity in the phygital connection (for the second category) (1 point)
KEY DATES
• Open Call Submission: August 1–25, 2025
• Artist Selection Notification: September 1, 2025
• Sketch Submission (digital + phygital): September 25, 2025
• Final Digital Artwork Submission (via Drive): September 30, 2025
• Final Phygital Artwork Delivery (Tenerife, Spain): October 10, 2025
• NFT Minting & Listing: October 20, 2025

ARTWORK DISTRIBUTION
To maximize artist inclusion without compromising quality, artworks will be displayed as follows:
• 10 digital artworks on individual screens
• 10 digital artworks on a shared screen (continuous rotation)
• 10 phygital artworks in the physical gallery space, alongside their digital tokens
The 10 tokenized physical pieces will be presented on the walls and furniture of the venue. A virtual exhibition in Spatial will also be accessible globally.
Out of the 30 participating artists:
• 27 will be selected through this open call
• 3 will be directly invited by the curators
(These artists may use other blockchains such as Solana, Ethereum, or Bitcoin)
COMMERCIALIZATION
Artworks can be sold during both the physical and virtual exhibitions and will remain available for one year under NFTCAN’s sale terms.
• Attendees will be encouraged to place bids via Objkt
• In case of a sale, NFTCANARIAS retains a 10% commission; the remaining 90% goes directly to the artist
• Artists retain full rights to their work
• Note: Shipping costs for physical artworks must be covered by the artist
Each selected artist will receive:
• A photo of their work displayed in the venue
• An official certificate of participation in ARTCAN 2025
FORMATS
Most screens will be mounted vertically. Artists may choose one of the following formats:
• 1920 x 1080 px (16:9 horizontal, Full HD or higher)
• 1080 x 1920 px (16:9 vertical, Full HD or higher)
• 1080 x 1080 px (1:1 square)
• 1920 x variable width (custom width up to 1080 px height)
• 1080 x variable height (custom height up to 1920 px width)
Video/animation requirements:
• 25–30 FPS
• Duration: Artist-defined, within blockchain platform limits
Phygital (physical) artwork formats:
• Canvas / Photography: Max 1 x 1 meter, must be framed
• Sculpture / Object: Max 50 x 50 x 50 cm, must include a base
• Digital object: Other formats may be considered
• Max weight: 20 kg
